Itinerary of the Sahara Tour from Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate

Here starts the Sahara Tour from Marrakech! At your lodging in Marrakech, we pick you up in the early hours of the day. Next, we’ll take a scenic drive across the High Atlas mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Following that, we go on to the famed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. It is a fortified settlement designated by UNESCO as a World Historic Site. Additionally, the Kasbah has appeared in several films as well as television shows such as Game of Thrones.

After a lunch break, we travel to “The gate of the desert” Ouarzazate. You’ll have dinner and accommodation there.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Amridil Kasbah – Erfoud – Merzouga

Following a tour to Ouarzazate’s film studios, we travel to Kalaa Magouna to see the Rose Valley. Every year in May, a Rose Festival is held when residents sell their rose items such as fragrances, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. Next we drive by other Kasbahs, including Amridil Kasbah, which is bordered by Skoura’s palm tree grove.

Then, we travel through the Dades valley and halt at a viewpoint overlooking the valley to take in the scenery of the Dades gorges. Afterward, we proceed to the Todra Gorges. The Todra River has formed a huge canyon through the mountains, resulting in a steep red cliff-sided canyon.

We arrive in the afternoon in the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where we swap to camels and trek the sandy desert. On top of a tall dune, a stop will be made so that you may take in the spectacular sunset. Continue on to the luxury camp in the desert, where you may dance around the campfire to the sounds of Berber drums while admiring the great open sky filled with stars. At the camp, you’ll sleep for the night.

Day 3: Merzouga – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga lake – Erg Chebbi

Get up early in the morning to watch the gorgeous dawn. Following breakfast, go to Merzouga on camels, where the driver awaits. We spend the day touring the Merzouga area. There are other magnificent features in the area, including sand dunes, natural lakes, mines, and fossil locations, as well as a fantastic oasis.

We pay a visit to the nomads in their handwoven tents. While sipping Berber tea, learn about their way of life. The Khamlia village is our next stop, where you will experience Gnaoua music and dancing performances. Its residents come from Sub-Saharan African nations. We go for a walk in the palm tree forest after lunch. Afterward, drive a few kilometers to visit the flamingo lake.

    Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

To explore Rissani, the former seat of the Tafilalet government, we depart the desert. Rissani remains an important trade hub in the region, with a bustling souk on most days of the week. After a tour around Rissani souk, we travel to Erfoud and visit one of the fossilized marble factories. Following that, we travel down the Ziz River, pausing to take in the scenery.

After lunch in Midelt, we proceed to the cedar forest, which is home to the Barbary Macaques. Afterward we go to Ifrane, which is known for its cold temperatures, snow, and alpine-style residences. It’s no surprise that it’s known as Morocco’s Switzerland. Lastly, we will drop you off at the airport or your hotel in Fes. That ends our Sahara Tour from Marrakech.
