Itinerary of the Morocco Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges

The driver arrives at your hotel or Riad at 08:00 a.m. to take you up. We go across the High Atlas Mountains, passing via the highest pass Tizi n Tichka (2260 m) on our way to Ouarzazate.

We walk through Berber communities and pause to photograph the scenery. We arrive at the ancient ksar of Ait Benhaddou. It is a fortified city that is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it has been the location for numerous notable Hollywood films.

Following lunch, we stop at Ouarzazate for a city tour. The trek through the valley of hundreds of Kasbahs is legendary and a must-do in Morocco. We get at Dades Valley in the evening, have supper, and sleep in a hotel.

Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Merzouga

We continue our Morocco Desert Tour driving to Tinerhir and Todra Gorges, where you will have free time to explore. The huge canyon Todra Gorge is stunning, with a 300-meter-deep fault splitting the red sandstone into a narrow valley.

Following a lunch break, we depart for Merzouga, where camels await to transport you to the Erg Chebbi dunes. The camels are loaded with all of the things you’ll need for the journey.

You’ll be watching the sunset. You may even try your hand at sandboarding across the hills. Tea and tagine are later offered in the camp. During supper, you may all dance around the bonfire to the local Berbers’ traditional drumming and singing. Sleep under the stars in a nomad tent.

    Day 3: Explore Merzouga area

Start your journey to discover the quaint communities around the Erg Chebbi dunes, including Hassi Labied and Khamlia. When you stop in Hassi Labied, you may see the canal irrigation system in the garden there.

At Merzouga, you will view Dayet Srji Lake, which develops in the spring and attracts flocks of pink flamingos. You will be greeted in Khamlia with a cup of tea and some Gnawa music in a kind and welcoming manner.

After lunch and some downtime, we return to your hotel. An overnight stay awaits you in a hotel, including supper and breakfast.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Azrou – Fes

The chance to take a second camel ride and explore Erg Chebbi’s wind-blown dunes will be available after breakfast. Then, you will depart for Rissani and Erfoud, where you will pause to explore local displays of locally discovered fossils and how they are transformed into intriguing products and furniture.

Our journey continues in the Ziz Valley, which is notable for its vast palm trees and is famed for its date festival in November. After traversing the Middle Atlas Mountains, we reach Midelt, where we shall have lunch. We travel through Azrou’s cedar trees and arrive at Fes towards the end of the evening.

Day 5: Guided tour of Fes

During a guided tour, you will see Fes’s medina, its famed souks, meandering gravel lanes flanked with ancient mosques and soaring green-glazed archways, as well as the characteristic Andalusian design found throughout the entire old city and its landmarks.

The renowned Al Qaraouiyine University is only one of the historical and cultural sites that we will make sure you see. The tour will also include visits to tanneries and a pottery cooperative to learn about traditional Moroccan crafts. Overnight accommodations at a hotel or Riad are available.

    Day 6: Fes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen

Depart for Fes this morning through the ancient Roman remains of Volubilis. Beautiful mosaic floors discovered and presented to the public by researchers working on this partially excavated site may be found at Volubilis.

Continue on to Chefchaouen from Volubilis. The blue city has a peaceful and inviting attitude, as well as several picture chances. Wander the souks, sample the local goat cheese, or peruse the kiosks displaying regional handicrafts.

    Day 7: Chefchaouen – Tangier

Feel free to wander around the Blue city in the morning before leaving for Tangier where we’ll drop you off at the airport to end our Morocco Desert Tour.
