Itinerary of the Marrakech to Merzouga Tour

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Boumalne

Set out from Marrakech at 08:00 a.m. to begin this Marrakech to Merzouga Tour. Traveling to Ait Benhaddou across the High Atlas Mountains and the magnificent Tizi-N-Tichka pass, we’ll make stops along the journey to view the stunning vistas and traditional Berber communities of the Atlas Mountains.

We will stop for lunch in Ait Benhaddou, which also includes the ancient and frightening Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. Since 1987, the Kasbah, or “walled village,” has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has served as the backdrop for films such as Babel and television series such as Game of Thrones.

We travel to Boumalne via Kalaat M’Gouna, where we may see a tiny facility for rose distillation. After we arrive in Boumalne, we’ll follow the Dades Valley via various walled towns to visit the monkey toes rock formations before heading to your accommodation. Dinner and an overnight stay await you in a hotel.

Day 2: Boumalne – Todgha Gorges – Merzouga

After breakfast in your Dades Valley hotel, we’ll go to Tinghir, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking vista of oases and Kasbahs, where Berbers and Jews coexisted. You will also get the opportunity to wander beneath the 300m high peaks of the Todra Gorges prior to traveling to the Sahara desert.

Your camels will be ready for you to carry you through Erg Chebbi’s beautiful dunes to your tent. You may sandboard and watch the sunset from the top of a high dune. The camp staff will offer a great supper at night, followed by drumming around a campfire beneath the stars.

    Day 3: Desert Day Tour

It is strongly advised that you get up early today to view the dawn from your tent. Following breakfast, we will take you in a 4×4 vehicle and begin our Desert Day Tour. We’ll go to the nomads’ encampment. They would gladly host you for a cup of tea in one of their tents. Learn about their way of life in a tough setting far from civilization.

Then, we’ll explore an abandoned settlement in the midst of nowhere! The Galena mines are located in the town. You will be able to see them as well. We will also drive to Khamlia and listen to Gnaoua music performed by locals. Their ancestors are from southern African nations such as Sudan. By the end of the day, and before arriving at your Riad, we proceed to a lake close to Merzouga.

    Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Agdez – Ouarzazate

Those who get up early in the morning will be blessed with a serene dawn from their Riad’s patio. Later, we’ll make a stop in Rissani’s ancient town to view a typical souk. We go to Ouarzazate via the lovely Draa valley and stop at Agdez to admire some valley scenery. We’ll arrive in the evening at your Riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Telouat Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast at your Riad, we tour Ouarzazate, which is recognized as Africa’s Hollywood and the entrance to the Sahara desert. The old Kasbah of Taourirt and the Atlas studio have made the city a popular filming location.

We return to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains after seeing both sights. We will stop along the journey to see the Telouat Kasbah, which is located along the old caravan route.

The 5-day Marrakech to Merzouga Tour comes to a conclusion when you arrive in Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at the airport or your lodging.
