Itinerary of the Desert Tour from Tangier

    Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen

On the first day of our Desert Tour from Tangier, we will meet you at the airport or port and travel to Chefchaouen (the blue city) via the Rif mountains and Tetouan city, where you will be able to appreciate the breathtaking views of the highlands.

Stay overnight in your hotel or Riad.

    Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Following your breakfast at the riad, we’ll set off for Volubilis, passing via Ouazzane and other Rif villages. We will find the best-preserved Roman remains in Morocco in Volubilis, where we will also learn about the historical archeological site of Morocco.

Following our tour of the ruins, we will continue on to Meknes, a 17th-century landmark, where we will have lunch and explore the medina’s massive ancient walls, which include Bab el Mansour and Moulay Ismail’s mausoleum. We will go immediately to Fes city, where you will stay for the night.

    Day 3: Fes Sightseeing Tour

You will be given a guided tour to learn about Fes’s medina, its well-known souks, its winding cobblestone alleyways lined with historic mosques and towering green-glazed minarets, as well as the distinctive Andalusian architecture seen throughout the whole old city and its monuments.

We will make sure you see all places of historical and cultural significance, including the renowned Al Qaraouiyine University. A visit to the tanneries and the pottery cooperative to explore traditional Moroccan crafts will also be included in the trip. Hotel or Riad overnight stay awaits you.

    Day 4: Fes – Azrou’s cedar forest – Midelt – Merzouga

From your hotel or Riad, we’ll get you and travel south to Azrou through Ifrane (Morocco’s Switzerland) and then to the Middle Atlas highlands, stopping by the cedar forest to shoot some beautiful shots with the Barbarian Apes.

After lunch, we’ll continue traveling via the Ziz Valley to Erfoud and Rissani before arriving in Merzouga as we continue into the Atlas Mountains while taking in the scenery of Midelt. Spend the night at a nearby hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga area – Night in desert camp

After breakfast, we’ll begin our exploration of the area by going to a community of black people who are originally from Mali to take in their culture and music. Then, after visiting Miffis Mines to learn more about how they operate, we’ll go behind the Dunes to a wonderful desert area where we’ll settle down for a hot afternoon tea with some of the Bedouin residents.

Your local guides will show you how to ride and dismount a camel and other helpful safety recommendations before you head back to the hotel. After a cup of tea, you can then start exploring the enigmatic Erg Chebbi sand sea. Sleep in a tent like a Berber.

Day 6: Merzouga – Jerf – Todgha Gorges – Dades Valley

The finest dawn of our lives will greet us as we awake early in the morning, spreading various shadows and hues across the sand sea.

After breakfast, we’ll travel to Tinghir and the breathtaking Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s tallest and tightest gorges, before heading to our accommodation in the desert. The gorges are an excellent place for trekking, sitting by the river, and enjoying some regional Berber cuisine.

Following a meal in the midst of the gorge, we’ll continue through the Dades Valley and complete the day by spending the night at a fine hotel perched atop a mountain.

Day 7: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

We will travel through the Dades Valley to reach Kalaa M’gouna (the city of flowers) and Ouarzazate after breakfast at your hotel. The route through Dades Valley is known as the “Way of a Thousand Kasbahs,” and it offers many opportunity to capture some of your trip’s greatest photos.

Then, before traveling to Ait Benhaddou, the biggest Kasbah in Morocco, which was created by T-Hami El Glaoui since it was once one of his pauses during his protracted journey from the Sahara to Marrakech, we will make a brief stop at the Atlas Movies Studio of Ouarzazate.

After lunch, we’ll change directions and travel over high atlas highlands filled with charming Berber towns till Marrakech, when the Desert Tour from Tangier comes to a conclusion.
