Morocco Fossils Hunting and Minerals Tour Itinerary

The majority of our Fossils Hunting and Minerals Tour itineraries and packages are private because we want to pave the way for exclusive cultural experiences while still providing personalized service.

    Day 1: Arrival Day

Upon arriving at Marrakech Menara Airport, you will be welcomed by a meet & greet session. You will be taken on a cultural tour of Marrakech. Your own private tour guide will reveal the city’s intriguing past.

You’ll explore the Menara Gardens, Majorelle’s botanical gardens, before taking a walking tour through the Medina’s lively streets. The Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the Souks will be seen before the journey ends at Jemaa el-Fna Square. An overnight stay awaits you in a Riad.

Day 2: Marrakech – Sidi Rhal – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate

After breakfast in your Riad, you’ll travel south to the Sidi Rhal mine, which is rich in Quartz Chalcedonies, agate, amethyst, and other minerals. A picnic is expected for lunch before continuing on the trail farther south to Ouarzazate over the beautiful high-Atlas Mountains where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Alnif

We’ll take you to Agdz via the stunning Anti-Atlas Mountains and its rock formations. This municipal center represents the beginning of the palm-studded Draa Valley. You’ll come to a halt at the Ordovician site, which is known for its massive trilobites.

You’ll stop for a picnic lunch before continuing on the trail to the Silurian Site, where you may like to gather some black Orthoceras. We then drive to Alnif town where you will sleep for the night.

Day 4: Exploring the Alnif Area

After breakfast at your accommodation, you’ll go to the Cambrian Site, known for its massive yellowish trilobites, and then to the Ordovician Site in Jbel (Mountain) Tiskaouine. Calymenes and flexycalymenes abound in the previous location. Later, you’ll return to Alnif and your hotel.

    Day 5: Alnif – Rissani – Merzouga

You’ll depart via Erissani to the Merzouga desert. You’ll stop in a quarry along the way to see Goniatites Fossiles, which are discovered in layers dating back to the middle Devonian Era.

You’ll get the opportunity to tour a local museum, which has a diverse collection of fossils, minerals, and meteorites from the area. Later that afternoon, you’ll go to the Erg Chebbi desert to sleep in for the night.

Day 6: Explore the Desert Area & Camel Trek

Following breakfast in your accommodation, you’ll go to Taous, the closest military installation to the Moroccan border. This facility, along with Begaa, is famous for its fish, crocodiles, shark teeth, and spinosaurus bones and teeth.

Then, go to the Boutariyt Site and gather echinoderms. Explore the Mifis mine before returning to the accommodation near the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Take a camel ride to witness the magnificent sunset and spend the night in a desert tent.

Day 7: Merouga – Erfoud – Tinejdad – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Early in the morning, get up and watch the sunrise from above the sand dune. After breakfast, you’ll proceed west to Dades Valley via Erfoud, Tinejdad Oasis, and the Todgha Gorge. The Gorge of Todgha is a popular destination for mountain climbers and locals looking for cooler weather and an escape from the heat. You will spend the night in a nearby hotel.

Day 8: Dades Valley – Skoura – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, you’ll continue west to Marrakech through Skoura, stopping at the magnificent Amredil Kasbah. Drive to Ouarzazate (Africa’s Hollywood), with the option of visiting the famed Atlas Film Studios. Then, proceed to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, which has served as a backdrop for numerous Hollywood movies. After lunchtime, you go to Marrakech over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

Day 9: Free day in Marrakech

On this free day of our Fossils Hunting and Minerals Tour, you have the right to choose to explore the Medina’s winding passageways even further.
