Day 1

Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Boumalne

The Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour begins with an early pick-up from your hotel/Riad or wherever you are in Marrakech. Leave the city, traveling southeast into the High Atlas highlands, where you’ll see beautiful vistas of classic Berber settlements and make photo stops. Pause for lunch at Ait Benhaddou hamlet, which also houses the old and foreboding Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. The Kasbah, or “walled village,” has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and it has been used as the setting for several films like Babel and TV shows like Game of Thrones. The biggest studio in Africa is the first stop after a brief journey to Ouarzazate. Then, go to Boumalne, passing through the Valley of Roses along the route. You might opt to explore the Dades Valley rock formations (known as monkey fingers) prior to or after your lodging.

Day 2

Boumalne – Tinghir Oasis – Todgha Canyon – Merzouga

After a delicious breakfast, we’ll continue to Tinghir and halt at a spectacular overlook of trees and Kasbahs. You will get the opportunity to wander beneath the Todgha River’s Great Canyon. The gorge reaches a depth of 300 meters. Your luggage will be delivered to your tent in a 4×4 when we get to Merzouga, so you may enjoy the sunset over the Erg Chebbi in all its fiery red and orange glory. Enjoy a memorable night in the Moroccan Desert playing drums, telling stories, and gazing at the stars.

Day 3

Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fes

This morning’s early risers are greeted with a serene and stunning sunrise. Following a hearty breakfast, you have the option of returning to the camp by camel or 4×4 vehicle. Driving from Merzouga to Fez, you’ll pause for a panorama of the Ziz Valley, which is densely forested and home to a few towns. Barbary Apes, one of the few species that can live in cold climates, may be found in the Middle Atlas. Pause for a breather and a coffee in the city known as Morocco’s Switzerland (Ifrane).
